Sherborne is a gorgeous, historic abbey town located in Dorset.
The town has great transport links, with a main line train station providing services through to London Waterloo and regular trains to Exeter. There are good local bus services that can take you to Yeovil as well as all the other local towns and villages too.
Sherborne is known for its excellent and historic schools, and it has both state and independent schools available for local children. There are two primary schools, and several secondary schools, some of which have both day and boarding options for pupils.
The town has thriving independent stores that provide unique and special items, such as homeware, fashion, gifts and much more. Sherborne is well known for its antiques, and it even has its own auction house. The successful markets provide something different too, with weekly local food markets and monthly vintage markets. The town has some well-known high street shops and supermarkets too.
Locals enjoy making the most of the fantastic food and drink that’s available throughout the town. There’s a variety of cafes to choose from and there are plenty of restaurants available for evening meals too, including some award-winning ones. The local pubs are very popular, some of which are known for their excellent hand-pulled ales.
There are several parks within the town, with play areas for children and one that has more formal gardens and a traditional bandstand. These provide plenty of outside space for locals to enjoy all year round.
Sherborne is a beautiful place that’s steeped in history, which can be easily seen through all the amazing buildings here. There are mediaeval buildings, Georgian houses, Tudor gateways, a 16th century castle, as well as the abbey that dates back to Saxon times. All this creates a gorgeous, picturesque town so it’s no wonder that it’s been used as a location for both films and TV series.
