Bridlington is a lovely harbour town on the North Yorkshire coast.
The town’s train station is on the Yorkshire coast line, with regular services to Hull, Doncaster, Sheffield, York and Scarborough. There are great bus services too, both local services and ones taking residents further afield to places like Leeds, York and Tadcaster.
Bridlington has seven primary schools, which are all mixed gender. Bridlington School and Headlands School are the two secondary schools serving the area, and East Riding College provides further education for students over 16 years of age.
The Promenades is the town’s shopping centre, housing national brands and independent shops. There’s an Argos, New Look, Boots, and more, as well as food outlets like Burger King and Jerome’s Café. Bridlington has a great selection of independent shops in the town, like Heart & Home, Daisy Crafts and George Men’s Wear Ltd.
Bridlington has a great range of food and drink to suit all budgets. It has many award-winning fish and chip shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, as well as takeaways.
Bridlington Old Town is removed from the harbour’s hustle and bustle and offers a glimpse into the past, with its alleyways and quaint stores. This part of Bridlington is where the 2016 Dad’s Army film was made. There are lots of independent shops and galleries in the area, like Gallery 49, and traditional pubs, like The Old Ship Inn. There’s also a great choice of restaurants, including Raffles Restaurant, which has been open for over 30 years.
The town has great amenities. There are several GP surgeries and medical centres providing healthcare for Bridlington locals, and there’s also Bridlington & District Hospital providing surgical, rehabilitation and outpatients services. There are plenty of supermarkets in the area, too, including Morrisons, Tesco, and ALDI.
Bridlington has two beautiful sandy beaches with the harbour placed in the middle. It’s a bustling area with fishing boats coming in and out, and Bridlington is known as the Lobster Capital of Europe as they land more lobster here than anywhere else in Europe.
The harbour has plenty of ice cream and fish and chip shops to keep people fed whilst they’re spending time on the beach. The Yorkshire Belle offers hour-long cruises from Bridlington Harbour to see the lighthouse at Flamborough Head, and it has a well-stocked bar for refreshments.
There’s lots for families to enjoy in Bridlington, with the beaches, the funfair, and donkey rides. Nearby, there’s Sewerby Hall and Gardens, which is on the cliff tops with 50 acres of parkland and a zoo, pitch and put, gardens and The Clock Tower Café.
RSPB Bempton Cliffs host almost half a million seabirds on the chalk cliffs overlooking the North Sea, and it’s a spectacular sight to witness. You can watch the birds from one of the six safe viewpoints along the cliffs and then find out more about them at The Seabird Centre.
