Bedminster is a lively neighbourhood south of Bristol city centre.
It’s a great location as the city centre is very close by, so many residents choose to walk or cycle into Bristol. However, there are also plenty of local bus services and trains that make getting into the city centre really easy too. Bedminster train station is on the Bristol to Exeter line, with services direct to Bristol Temple Meads station. This gives access not only to the city centre, but to nationwide services as well. Services to London Paddington take just 2hrs30mins when travelling from Bedminster.
Bedminster has good education for children, starting with North Street Nursery for preschool children. There are five primary schools in the area, including Holy Cross RC Primary School, Parson Street Primary School and Victoria Park Primary School. For older children, the local secondary school is Bedminster Down School.
Shopping options in Bedminster are varied and exciting, with a great choice of independent stores throughout East Street, West Street and North Street. Trylla is a vibrant ceramics and craft store, with its own ceramics studio for people to get creative in; Toyville is a family-run toy shop, with a great selection for children of all ages. There’s something for everyone in this area, such as Friendly Records, Rhubarb Jumble (a vintage clothing store), and the bookshop, Storysmith.
There are a few high street chains in the area too, such as Wilko, and Boots, and also plenty of charity shops. As Bristol city centre is within walking distance, locals get easy access to all the city centre shopping options as well.
The area has a good selection of supermarkets including ASDA, Iceland, Tesco Express and Lidl.
North Street is packed with a fantastic selection of places for food and drink. Head to Sea Pearl Bristol for fish and chips, The Old Bookshop for tapas, or Mexican food at Viva La Mexicana. When nothing but a burger will do, try Oowee Diner, where they create burgers using high welfare meat, and they also have a great selection of dirty fries on the menu too.
Bedminster has plenty of pubs to choose from. The Spotted Cow Bristol is a local gastropub that has open mic nights, and Steam Crane has a good selection of local beers and craft ales. There are good bars in the area, such as KASK, which is a wine bar and deli, serving organic, vegan wine, as well as local beers and gins.
The nearest hospital is Bristol Royal Infirmary, which is just under three miles away in Bristol city centre.
There’s lots to do locally here. Victoria Park has plenty of green space and three children’s play areas. The Tobacco Factory Theatres hosts an array of shows, from operas to comedy performers, and they also do workshops and classes for people to get involved with.
Bedminster always has something exciting and vibrant going on. A great example of this is Upfest, which is a multi-venue graffiti festival with live music that runs on North Street every year.
Nearby, Windmill Hill City Farm makes for a great day out and it’s free to enter. There’s loads to do, including enjoying the community gardens, going on a farm trail and meeting the animals. There’s also an onsite play area and café.
