The Town
Carlisle is the Cumbria’s largest county town and the primary administrative, cultural, and commercial centre for the north Cumbria area. The City of Carlisle extends to a geographical area that includes the town of Carlisle and surrounding hinterlands to cover a total area of around 402 square miles, this classifies Carlisle as the largest city in England.
Originally a Roman town, Carlisle boasts a rich history with striking landmarks that make the area such a desirable place to live; of special note are Carlisle Castle and Cathedral that have both looked down on the border town for over 900 years. Hadrian’s Wall is a big draw to the area for those that are interested in the history of the roman occupation and Scottish and English disputes throughout the ages.

More modern attractions include the Racecourse where in addition to the usual horse racing facilities, the location also hosts a stadium, arena, and sports venue where many open-air concerts, performances, and events take place throughout the year; it is also home to the local football team, Carlisle United.

Carlisle is conveniently positioned near to the M6 to provide ease of access to the UKs motorway infrastructure and is on the mainline London to Glasgow rail network. In 2019 Carlisle got its own regional airport making Carlisle more accessible for commuters, businesses, and pleasure seekers.

Major employers in the region are McVities and Carrs (of tasty biscuit and cracker fame), Nestle, the global food and drink manufacturers, Pirelli tyres, and Innovia, (the company that prints the UKs bank notes) is located in Wigton.
The local area boasts some high performing educational establishments, among them are; James Rennie School, Richard Rose Central & Morton Academies, Trinity School, and The Nelson Thomlinson School in Wigton. There is also a popular University and College of Art in the vibrant town of Carlisle.

Locations such as Wetheral, Dalston, and towns and villages north of the river remain ever popular for home buyers, as do Brampton, Hayton, Lanercost with its beautiful priory ruins, and Wigton just 10 mins away from the National Park is a very popular location for locals and visitors to the area.
