Hillsborough is a well-known suburb of Sheffield that’s just a few miles northwest of the city centre.
The area close to central Sheffield is an excellent base for people working in the city. Sheffield’s Supertram makes it easy to get around the city and into the centre. Hillsborough is on the blue and yellow routes with services leaving Hillsborough Interchange (where the local buses leave). The A61 passes Hillsborough and gives those travelling by car an easy route into the city or to the ring road when travelling further afield. There are local bus services to Sheffield train station, which provides access to national train services, including ones to London that take just over two hours.
There are good education options for families in the area. Hillsborough Primary School received a good rating from Ofsted, and another local primary option is Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School. Bradfield School is the local secondary school, and it’s just a couple of miles from the Hillsborough area.
Hillsborough Exchange has excellent shopping facilities for locals with a good mix of national and independent stores, and it’s just a few minutes walk from Hillsborough Interchange. Well-known brands include Boots, Peacocks and Clintons. There’s also a local barber, a Chinese doctor and other independents, like Parkins Pantry and Sunny Gifts. There are several supermarkets, including Morrisons and Iceland, and there’s a local B&Q for all your DIY needs.
Coffee Boo serves delicious lunches in a cosy atmosphere, and Riverside Café & Bar has a great selection of cooked breakfasts. Four Lane Fisheries is a popular local fish and chip shop, and there are other takeaways too, like pizza. Sette Colli Restaurant is a popular local Italian, as is the Orange Bird serves modern South African/International food. The area has some quality pubs, like Northern Monkey, The Hillsborough Tap and The Park, which is a family-friendly option.
There are good local amenities with a Post Office, library and Hillsborough Leisure Centre, which has a gym, a swimming pool, a cafe and plenty of fitness classes. There are local GP services and pharmacies in the area too. Locals enjoy making the most of the greenspace at Hillsborough Park, which has a playground, a beautiful walled garden, a 19th-century mansion and a fishing lake.
Hillsborough is well-known for Hillsborough Stadium, which has been home to Sheffield Wednesday Football Club since 1899. It’s a sizeable traditional stadium with a 39,732 capacity.
