Scunthorpe is a busy town in North Lincolnshire
Scunthorpe train station is a short walk from the town centre and it has regular services to Doncaster that take just 30 minutes. There are hourly services to Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport, and also regular services heading east to Grimbsy and Cleethorpes. Easy access to the motorway means that many places are within reach for commuting by car, such as Doncaster, Leeds, Hull, Grimsby, and Lincoln. Humberside Airport is only 15 miles from Scunthorpe providing access to international travel.
Scunthorpe has lots of primary schools, including faith-led schools, and many secondaries, including several independent schools, such as OneSchool Global UK Ridgeway Campus. There are sixth form colleges in the area, and The University Campus North Lincolnshire (UCNL), providing higher education to 1,200 students.
The Parishes and The Foundry shopping centres are in the middle of Scunthorpe. The Foundry has plenty of fashion brands, and food and drink outlets, and The Parishes is a modern centre with lots of high street names.
North Lincolnshire Shopping Park is just outside of the town and only five minutes by train. It’s a great trip out for some retail therapy at shops including Marks and Spencer, Boots, B&M and more.
20-21 Visual Arts Centre is housed in a Grade II listed church, and it has a programme of exhibitions and events to enjoy. It also has a lovely café and gift shop, selling items that have been handmade by artists around the country.
St Johns is the new indoor market with a wide variety of stalls selling items like clothing, antiques and fresh food. There are unique, independent stores to find in Scunthorpe too, such as Sparkles, which is a traditional sweet shop providing a perfect treat for kids.
Choose from a good variety of cafes in the town, including the well-known brands such as Costa Coffee, or more traditional places serving afternoon tea, like Gill’s Vintage Tearoom.
There are pubs scattered throughout Scunthorpe, such as Black Beauty and The Chancel, and many of them serve up tasty meals too. When heading out for a meal there’s plenty to choose from in Scunthorpe. The Stables is a Greek restaurant with a lovely beer garden, Colosseo is a great Italian, and Zeera Spice Lounge serves authentic Indian food.
Healthcare is well provided for with several medical centres, pharmacies and dentists available, as well as Scunthorpe General Hospital.
The Baths Hall is a large entertainment centre in central Scunthorpe, which has comedy, theatre and music shows for people of all ages to enjoy.
Central Park is a great place to visit with the family as it has a playground, trampolines, a splash pad, a football field, and more, all surrounded by woodland. There’s also The Pods leisure centre, which offers two pools and state-of-the-art gym facilities. Near the village of Burton upon Stather is Normanby Hall Country Park, which is a great place for walks. It also has a park, a farming museum and a splash park to enjoy within its 300 acres of land.
