If you were to ask people their ideal location to self-isolate right now, a lot of people would say a pub. There will be calls for football or rugby stadiums, and some people might say a cinema or sweet shop, but when the pubs are shut, having access to your bar will be a dream come true for many people.
A lot of social media posts have shown people setting up their home-bar or adding optics to their kitchen or garden area. However, two men in Stoke Newington are making the most of the lockdown, and they aren’t missing out on the comforts that so many of us are counting down the days until we see and taste again.
Would you like to live in a pub during lockdown?
The Evening Standard broke the news regarding Steve Pond and Dominic Townsend who have been isolating in The Prince pub. The pub, at 59 Kynaston Rd, has an excellent reputation for craft beers and being a spacious place to hang out.
Townsend moved into the pub earlier on in 2020 after he took on the role of assistant manager. The two men have spent a lot of time in the pub during the lockdown. This means they’ve enjoyed pints, played the board games on offer and even enjoyed a round or two of crazy golf. They’ve also enjoyed barbecues on the roof of the pub, taking advantage of the great weather.
What would be your ideal home during lockdown?
They’ve also left the pub as it is. The chalkboards have sporting events around the time of the lockdown, and it is fair to say they haven’t spent too much time dusting and cleaning in the kitchen. You can guarantee they will be busy before the pub is allowed to re-open, but sadly, no one knows when this will happen. There is a strong chance pubs and bars will be amongst the last establishments allowed to re-open when lockdown restrictions are lifted.
Pond spoke to the Evening Standard, saying; “One of the lows is not having the locals come in. It’s lucky me and Dom get on so well.” Townsend said; “It makes you realise that a lot of the superficial stuff doesn’t matter as much. You want to see your friends, you want to see your family, you want to live a bit.”
